Cinderella man is the story about James J Braddock (Russel Crow), a heavy weight rising star boxer in 1920 with his aliases “The Bulldog from Bergen”. His popularity start to rise up and stop in 1929 because of The Wall Street Crash  also known as Great Crash. Great cash is the condition in which the worst United states  stock exchange collapsed in history. This also become the great depresion for 10 years. After loosing  his own  property and having serious injured on his right because of the match. Braddock tries to survive for his wife Mae Braddock (Renee Zellweger) and his 3 children. Poverty brought from urban home to small apartment in New Jersey. Braddock poverty is getting hard when they can’t afford to pay electricity and heat.

Their financial getting worse. Braddock tries to get a daily job in dock. One day he did not get any job in the deck then he went mount vernon for a competition. It was Jou Gould (Paul Giamatti) a manager who help him to get in into the competition, Braddock fight without any food left in his stomach. Audieces are dissapoint to see Braddock performance. Awalnya ketika pertama kali melihat Rusell Crow dalam film “Beautiful Mind” saya langsung terkagum-kagum dengan aktingnya. Alur cerita pada film itu juga sangat menarik. Rusel Crow bertemu kembali dengan Ron Howard dalam film Cinderella Man adalah kombisani yang luar biasa. Cinderella Man adalah film tahun 2005 yang mendapat 3 piala oscar ditahun 2006 serta rentetan penghargaan laiinya.

Cinderella Man berkisah tentang James J. Braddock (Rusell Crow) , rising star di ring tinju kelas heavyweight selama akhir tahun 1920 dengan julukan “The Bulldog dari Bergen”. Popularitasnya terus menanjak hingga terhenti pada saat The Wall Street Crash of 1929 (October 1929). Atau yang lebih dikenal dengan Great Crash. Great Crash adalah kejadian dimana saham Amerika Serikat mengalami kehancuran dan yang paling terpuruk sepanjang sejarah. Serta jadi awal mula Great Depresion selama 10 tahun.

Setelah kehilangan kekayaan pribadi serta mengalami retak tangan kanan saat pertandingan. Braddock berjuang hidup untuk mencukupi kebutuhan istrinya Mae Braddock (Renee Zellweger) serta ke-3 anaknya yang masih kecil. Kemiskinan membawa mereka dari sebuah rumah perkotaan ke sebuah apartemen kecil di New Jersey. Gambaran kemiskinan pada keluarga Braddock semakin berat karna sudah hampir 4 bulan tidak bisa membayar listrik dan pemanas ruangan.

Keuangan mereka terus terpuruk. Braddock terpaksa mencari pekerjaan harian di dermaga. Suatu hari ia tidak mendapatkan pekerjaan di dermaga, lalu ia  pergi ke Mount vernont untuk melakukan pertandingan. Dibantu oleh Manager Jou Gould (Paul Giamatti), Braddock bertanding dengan  perut kosong, keadaan itu sangat tidak menguntungkan. Penonton kecewa melihat pertandingan Braddock. Pertandingan terpaksa dihentikan wasit karna dinilai sudah tidak menarik. Ijin bertandingnya pun dicabut oleh promotor Jimmy Johnston (Bruce McGill). Continue reading →
